Light at the End of the Tunnel

These depressing days reminded me of a song I wrote in 1983. 🎵 Back then it was apropos of nothing, really, but it kind of fits what’s happening now. Maybe a tad exaggerated – poetic licence, I guess.

It’s to be sung like a country song, with a simple three-chord melody. 🎶 You can make up your own! Or it can stand as a poem.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

There has to be an end to the bad times that we have
It’s getting too hard to go on coping;
We lost our dreams a while ago, but there’s no need to cry,
We’ve got to look ahead and keep on hoping.

CHORUS:
‘Cause there’s a light at the end of the tunnel
There’s peace and contentment on the way;
Let’s hope for the future, have faith in ourselves,
The sun will dawn on a brighter day.

It’s true we don’t have money like we used to have before,
Our lives are often filled with pain and sorrow;
But all of us have strengths to use, let’s do the best we can
Let’s work to make a better tomorrow.

CHORUS:
‘Cause there’s a light at the end of the tunnel
There’s peace and contentment on the way;
Let’s hope for the future, have faith in ourselves,
The sun will dawn on a brighter day.

We all can contribute to make a decent world
There’s lots to do to make it fit for living;
We can think and learn, help and build, laugh and love again,
We can prosper not by taking, but by giving.

CHORUS:
‘Cause there’s a light at the end of the tunnel
There’s peace and contentment on the way;
Let’s hope for the future, have faith in ourselves,
The sun will dawn on a brighter day.

  1. Love it!
    I tried to read it as a poem but somehow my mind made it into my own little song! Maybe it was the power of suggestion huh?
    Either way, it is very encouraging at such a time as this :). Thank you Ellie!
