But now it’s gone! 😰😩
Okay, let’s back up. I’ve had the nub of an idea for a novel brewing for some time. So far I’ve managed to:
- do some research
- work up reasonably interesting main characters
- get suspense going right off the bat
- dig in to produce… a whole four pages! Wow! Hey, that’s four pages that didn’t exist before.
Before:
Since then I’ve been stuck: ruminating on it for days – no, weeks – and I still haven’t been able to figure out where the story is going.
But this morning: eureka! My mind trilled with thoughts, filaments, actions, scenes, dialogue, who does and says what and when, to whom, and where, and why! I imagined plot point after plot point after –
Only one problem. I didn’t write any of it down. Why not, you ask? Because it was in a dang dream, that’s why not! I imagined an entire novel, beautifully (if I do say so myself) crafted, my quirky characters’ dire machinations lovingly interwoven with their breathtaking aspirations and… sob! It’s all gone.
Sigh. It was never this hard with my previous three books… probably because they were mainly non-fiction. I knew precisely what I wanted to convey. Maybe that’s the problem. I have to decide exactly what I want to say. Also I need a laptop computer for my night table. In case I have to record my next draft. 😀

I know the feeling! If I’m in a creative mood, I always keep a pen and paper next to the bed.

Ha, and can you actually *read* what you’ve written, when you wake up later? I think my brilliant ideas would be one big scrawl!

Often difficult to read but I usually work it out. Try writing something without the lights on and see what happens. 🙂

Ok but I should tell you that even with the lights ON my handwriting stinks. Maybe I was a doctor in another life? Lol!

Most of the time I wouldn’t want my dreams recorded. It’s a shame you can’t get your dream novel back. I’m sure it was absolutely perfect.

I love it. You dreamed a whole novel. While many may laugh, I actually believe that this is possible. Some have said that when a story is ready to be told, it will present itself to you–but you best get it down before it floats into the dreams of someone else. LOL!

If only I’d been able to write it all down! But in the dream, of course I didn’t realize it *was* a dream, so I saw no *need* to. It was already writing itself, like a player piano! 😬
