Well hi there, friends and neighbours! I know it’s been a while, but here we are together again at last, me writin’, and you readin’. I hope. π
Actually I’m just going to share something with you I hope you’ll like. It’s been a busy time lately for me and my hubby John – appointments galore, his doctors, speech therapy, physiotherapy, exercise classes, you name it – the fun never stops in Parkinson’s-land! π π
But we still manage to laugh in between and around all that stuff.
Meanwhile – meanwhile, I must tell you that I have done something I haven’t done in many years, and I’m rather proud of it. I wrote a new song. Those who know me, are aware that I wrote many songs back in the ’80s and ’90s, and then kind of stopped. Life got in the way and I got busy with other things.
But I got inspired just a few days ago and prodded myself to start writing. And song lyrics fell out of me, I guess you could say. It’s very personal – it references the fact that I’m not young anymore – and then it just, well, got caught up in what’s going on out there.
I didn’t have a tune for it, but I sent the lyrics off to my son Jeremy (yes, the Emmy-winning editor, that Jeremy π) who also happens to be a whiz with sound and music computer apps. Well: pretty soon he sent me my song back – as a song.
Both John and I were blown away. First, my lyrics. I’ll paste them here:
What Iβm Not Gonna Miss
I donβt wanna die
Iβll miss too much!
Inventions in science,
Space travel and such
Family and friends,
Cats and dogs
Playgrounds of my past
And falling off logs
I love all of life
A hug and a kiss,
But Iβm gonna tell ya
What Iβm not gonna miss:
Politics!! —
Crazy talk,
Hatinβ and yellinβ!
Nobody askinβ
βnβ too many tellinβ
We need more doctors,
Food for the poor
Safety for kids
βnβ water thatβs pure
So no more fightinβ!
No more blood spilled,
No more child soldiers,
Babies, mothers, gettinβ killed
Iβm not ready yet
If the Grim Reaper comes by
I want only love
In the world when I die
All this chaos and strife
And slaughter must cease
Iβll be ready to leave
When we finally have peace
