A whimsical look at a modern – yet timeless – confessional.
Montreal murals in days of old, advertising cigarettes… they used to be everywhere. This was but one factor contributing to the belief (for me and too many others) that it was perfectly okay to smoke. Here’s what else helped to lead me down the tobacco-strewn path.
Here’s a little thing I had fun writing years back, waaaay before there were smart phones, let’s say. I still like it; hope you do too!
Let’s start with those dang restaurant menus. How hard is it for them to email or hand over their draft to a proofreader? …or for that matter, to any English-speaking person preferably over six years of age?
Sure, the drive to the Hamptons in eastern Long Island, 90 miles east of Brooklyn, passes through typical countryside scenery: horse ranches, farmers’ fields, an Indian reserve – Shinnecock, and the like. But here are a few sights that stood out for me on my recent visit.
Okay, I admit my first choice for this piece’s title was the more mundane “Highlights of the Hamptons.” Definitely not a piquer of curiosity. (Hmm… “piquer.” Is that a word? It is now! )
