First of all, yes, I know the name doesn’t fit. I mean, look at him. Shouldn’t “Spooky” be a more fitting name for a black cat? You know, a witch’s familiar, that sort of thing? Short answer: yes. But he had that name when I got him in 2000 at age 5, so we were stuck.

Exactly 11 years ago I saw her for the last time. My friend, daughter and I went together to the Jewish General Hospital to see my mom. She’d been suffering from congestive heart failure for many months, sliding inexorably downhill.
Okay, this isn’t really going to be about the entire land of my birth. That would actually be Canada! No, I’m just going to share a few memories of our apartment at 5998 Park Avenue where I was brought home from the hospital at one week of age, and lived until the age of four, when we moved further west.
Fifty-four years ago, in 1962, I came of age. Not just because I graduated from high school at the tender age of 16. And not because I shortly afterward landed my first job. (Prudential Assurance, corner of Dorchester and University.)
Ah, the innocent ’50s!
On Tuesday, June 28, this blog will be one year old. In my wildest dreams, I never thought I’d write over 170 posts that would attract over 8,500 visitors and garner over 16,000 views from 67 different countries!
Since we’re now in midsummer, I’d like to repost a piece I wrote last year about my first summertime kiss. Many of you may not have read it before. I hope you enjoy it.

Many a Montreal family has virtually the same photo as this one – the same grouping (parents and child(ren), posing at the Lookout located at Mount Royal’s Chalet.
I’m waiting to take the bus home after my last day of work. Yup, it’s official: I’m now ‘Retired.’ The R word. I shudder.
Phases, by their nature, come and go. I can tell you that even though my sojourn in the Good Buddy Band was ‘just’ a phase, it was one of the happiest times in my life.
