Welcome back to another week’s worth of frightful faux pas, courtesy of the Grammar Cop!

1. “Place St-Moritz: Private senior’s residence. Where living feels good!”
2. “… I have designed a world based on the idea of inclusion and warm welcoming shapes that stretch out and envelope not only the audience but everyone watching.”
3. “The answer … is that all of these Republicans hale from ‘safe’ gerrymandered Republican districts where total fealty to Trump is necessary …”

And the corrections:

1. Does the residence belong to one person? No. I think you can tell from the context that this is a residence for many people. Therefore it’s a seniors’ residence (plural s’ ending). Not a “senior’s residence” (singular ‘s ending).
2. The word “envelope” is a noun, meaning, for example, a paper enclosure for a damn bill that is mailed to you. But in the sentence above, the word is meant to be a verb and should be spelled envelop, with the spoken emphasis on the el, as in: …shapes that stretch out and envelop not only the audience…
3. Really? Do “Republicans hale from…”? No, they don’t! However, they do hail (come from) from ‘safe’ districts. You’ll also see hail falling from clouds, and you’ll sing “Hail to the Chief” (if he’s not orange). But you’ll be hale and hearty (if you eat right and exercise), where hale means healthy. Hail to the hale Grammar Cop! 😁
