Greetings, grammar fans! 😃 Today’s grab-bag o’ glitches comes to you courtesy – once again – of the Grammar Cop!

1. “Kovac also worked with lawyer Harold Staviss and we at The Suburban, with much success, in lobbying…”
2. “The latest flack started last week when the Minister Responsible for the French Language … announced that…”
3. “She’s the one in the family who’s very cut and dry.”

The corrections:

1. This is a strange one; the Grammar Cop doesn’t remember ever seeing such an egregious error before, unless it was written by a six-year-old child… whose first language is not English. Sigh. “We” is wrong. The pronoun should be in the objective case, which would be us, since it’s the object of the preposition, “with.” So you’d have: Kovac also worked with lawyer Harold Staviss and us at the…
2. When you speak of getting negative feedback, you would say you’re getting flak. The word has no c in it. (There is also a word “flack,” but it means something completely different – a publicist.)
3. Yes, kudos for sure go to the writer for getting the grammar correct in “who’s” (contraction for who is). But unfortunately, he or she then erred with the idiom, cut and dried. (Saying “cut and dry” as above is mentioned in some dictionaries as a variant, but is definitely less-often seen and appreciated!)
