Welcome back to Friday Follies, grammar aficionados! The Grammar Cop has some awful abominations awaiting your inspection.
- On the other hand, if denazification’s principle purpose was to convince ordinary Germans of the wrongness of Nazism, then it was at best a partial success.
- We always knew he was still critical… she said they had never had anyone as sick as him make it passed this point.
- But with the center of gravity now shifting toward the Biden administration and it’s pro-environment agenda, GM has decided to side with the future, according to The New York Times.
.
And the corrections:
- The word “principle” is always a noun – unless you add a “d” on the end, thus forming “principled” – which is then an adjective. Never mind! In this sentence, “principle” is wrong. The correct word here is principal – which is always an adjective – unless you’re talking about a school principal, in which case it’s a noun. Clear as mud? See me after class, er, blog! 😁
- To repair this sentence, it should say: We always knew he was still critical… she said they had never had anyone as sick as he was make it past this point. (If you argue that “as sick as him” isn’t technically wrong, we would not argue back. However, it sounds wrong, so let’s change it.)
- Once again, lovely people:
ITS = possessive
IT’S = contraction for IT IS
So the sentence must be: But with the center of gravity now shifting toward the Biden administration and its pro-environment agenda…
We offer a sarcastic “Thank you” to media that should do better, e.g. CNN, The Washington Post, Yahoo News, etc., for providing Friday Follies with material for regular columns. With such a sad lack of editing and proofreading, the Grammar Cop’s work will never be done! 😅
1-The writer wins a trip to the principal’s office. And will write “I will proofread my articles” 100 times on the blackboard.
2-Thank goodness the patient survived. Unlike the sentence which met with an early demise.
3-The earth is off its axis due to another apostrophe catastrophe.

Haha! Yes! All three writers must go straight to the principal’s office… and stay there until they learn proper English! 😁
