The Grammar Cop sees red whenever she comes across these nasty spelling boo-boos! 😜
- Of course, it’s fair to reason Barron’s free reign over his playroom had something to do with his artistic flair.
- …when they lent over the enclosure and dropped their cell phone.
- The information lead to an investigation by the Unité permanente anticorruption (UPAC) and Revenue Québec.
.
And the corrections:
- Aha! This was quite a challenge, because the sentence actually contains three words that are part of homophone pairs (or triplets!), and are often misspelled: fair/fare, reign/rein/rain, and flair/flare. But in this case the only wrong word is “reign.” The expression is free rein, as when a rider allows a horse to move freely while the reins are held loosely. (I doubt Barron had a horse in his playroom. Although you never know…)
- The Grammar Cop almost dropped her own cell phone when she read this sentence in a Facebook meme! (Good thing she wasn’t near an alligator enclosure like the hapless zoo visitor. Bye-bye cell phone! But I digress…) Okay, so hear this: the past tense of lean is not “lent”! It is leaned. (There is a word “lent,” but it’s the past tense of “lend.” Never mind that now. 😬😀)
- Here’s yet another past-tense mistake. The word “lead” is only the present tense, as when you lead a donkey down the path. (Don’t ask. 😁 But if you did it yesterday, you dropped the “a” and led the donkey.) So the sentence should say: “The information led to an investigation by the…” Oh, and by the way, the French phrase Revenu Québec has no “e” on Revenu. Just saying.
And that’s the lesson for today, my friends! Tune in next Friday for a new batch o’ bloopers, and meanwhile, please stay safe and well!

1-I have to disagree on this one. Clearly the king’s son is a prince so he reigns over his playroom territory. 😉
2-Apparently the writer gave up good grammar for Lent.
3-There was also an investigation by the Environmental Protection Bureau as there was too much lead in that sentence.

😂😂😂 1) Maybe so, but does he have free *rein* over it too? 2) And her cell phone as well? 3) Lol! Your comments led me to laughter as usual!

Thankfully my comments soared higher than a lead balloon. I was laughing so much when I read sentence 2, that I nearly fell off my chair! 😀

There might be a horse in the kid’s playroom. There was a horse’s ass in the main house so apparently anything is possible. 😀
