Not too bad, for a ragtag group of folk having fun with merry melodies!
A few months ago, my husband John and I decided to join a choir together! This was a first for me, but not so for John, who’s been singing in a church choir for eons (i.e., years ๐).
His involvement means Wednesday-night practices, and then leading hymns and performing anthems during Sunday morning services, at Trinity United Church (in Montreal).
Now, our brand-new choir, just started in September, is led by the super-versatile musician, Ian Hanchet, along with his super-talented wife, Sharon Cheema, seen in the linked video together under their stage name as a duo, “Tumbleweed.”
We started out as a bunch of people – around 25 enthusiastic women and men who love singing, not on a professional level but just for the enjoyment of making musical harmonies together. We lost a few members along the way – illness, other unavoidable life events cropping up… Last night we were only seven plus Ian and Sharon. But you know what? We sounded darn good!
Here’s the very first recording we made of ourselves a few months ago. We only recorded the audio, but my son, Jeremy Presner, a brilliant film editor (I’m allowed to boast, it’s my blog! ๐), added in some still photos of the group, which I had obtained permission to take, of course. So now it’s a video!
I’ve inserted the lyrics (not very difficult*; public domain) below the video, in case you want to sing along. It’s a ’round.’ And it’s catchy! ๐ ๐ถ
Rose, Rose, Rose Red
Will I ever see thee wed?
I will marry at thy will sire
At thy will.
Vent frais, vent du matin
Vent qui souffle au sommet des grands pins
Joie du vent qui passe
Allons dans le grand vent…
Repeat until you feel like stopping. ๐
*I forgot to mention – the second verse is in French. Something about the wind. Don’t sweat it. ๐
How wonderful is this. I loved the video.
