This is an oldie, but I figured since I never heard it before, maybe some of you loyal readers never did either. It’s actually more poignant than it is funny. How about this: it’s poignantly funny. I’ll write it down roughly the way my friend John told it to me today:
Poignant
Good-bye Adam West and All the Rest
I started thinking about Adam (aka “Batman”) West’s passing Friday, and it brought back so many memories of the early (black & white!) days of television. Adam was a perfect Batman, square-jawed and brave – nothing fazed him. For new followers, here are a few other things I wrote over a year ago about this TV era.
I love George
It’s already been nine years since we lost the amazing, brilliant George Carlin. When he died nine years ago this June, he was the same age I am now. Way too damn young, if you ask me!
Dan Alatorre’s Word Weaver Writing Contest: FIRST PLACE “Making Copies” by Ellie Presner
Well, well! It seems I won First Prize in a writing contest! My short story beat out 200+ contestants. Go figure! I was shocked, truly! (I wrote it *many* years ago but it was never published. Don’t ask me why I dredged it up now, but I’m sure glad I did!) I won some really cool stuff thanks to the contest host, author Dan Alatorre – another fab WordPress blogger. And a huge THANK YOU to Dan for all his efforts – he had to wade through all those stories! LOL. Here’s his site, with my story posted there.
Sweet: How Jell-O ruined me for life
What’s a meal without dessert?
Hats
Yesterday I went for a walk and saw a man across the street, wearing a small hat. It looked very much like one of these:
A Piece of the Rock
Nobody told me it was illegal. Maybe it wasn’t, back in 1971. I still feel a bit like a criminal.
The Fuller Brush Man
Long ago, back through the mists of time to around 1938, my parents had been married about a year. Ida and Sam have been gone from this earth for some time now, but I feel compelled to tell you the tale of the Fuller Brush Man’s visit.
79 cents is the new 5 cents!
So I’m at the cash in IGA, the closest supermarket where I always shop. I’m waiting my turn, and as usual my eyes wander… to the candy counter next to me.
A message to my American friends
This is an extremely eloquent, heartfelt comment on one of Dan Rather’s Facebook posts, on his page. It brought me to tears. Please repost it far and wide. Thank you.
