This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes about writer. Thomas Mann said, “A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.” He’s talking about the level of commitment and perspiration writers are willing to devote to their craft. It’s one I’d always pull out when one of my students would say, “I’m just not a writer. It doesn’t come easy to me” (or some variation on the kind).

Ack, about *writing,* not *writer* (in the first sentence). Proof that Mann’s right!

A clever statement, that. And Mann’s too. 😉 Your “commitment and perspiration” – I like that, so true! I’d add the compulsion to get the words *out* and *down*, to record your words (for posterity?), and that obsession with the perfectionism. (Okay, *my* obsession with it.) Sigh. Why don’t we just plant peonies instead?!
