Okay! The Grammar Cop is back from her holidays and has nailed three spelling infractions. Here they are for your reading pleasure!
- “…due to compilations from ongoing health issues.” – HUFFINGTON POST (ENTERTAINMENT). I guess that’s about right. Must’ve been a whole constellabrium of complications.
- “GENIOUS!” – Simplemost.com’s ad for an app. Full quote: “This app transforms your phone or tablet into an amazing coloring book. GENIOUS!” Not a genius speller, though.
- “An article speculated she was being tested for a vocal chord growth…” – CNN.COM (ENTERTAINMENT). The chord in question is indeed more entertaining than a real vocal cord would be… especially since the gaffe is repeated not once, but twice more in the same article.
I’m sorry, I have to go now – my vocal cords are sore from going “Arghhh”!
I am so embarrassed to admit that I did NOT know how to spell vocal cords. Wow. Thankfully, it’s a term I probably haven’t written much, if ever. Thank you so much for helping me learn something new!!

Glad to help! But don’t feel bad – MANY people make this same mistake. It’s a tricky one!

Genious is the one I liked, because I felt a kinship. I make lots of spelling errors now because my old eyes don’t see the screen clearly. Sometimes I don’t even see the underlining done by the spell checker.

Really? Yikes! New glasses due, maybe?

I’ve had present glasses for a month. The main problem is sun glare. I don’t want to give up the mountain view! You should see me wearing a visor and peering at the screen. It’s good for a laugh.

Love the “vocal chords.” Freudian spelling error, perhaps?

Yes, and a very common one! Must be the association with sound and singing.

Love the irony in misspelling “Genius.”
