Book Progress Report #14

Three-and-a-half months. That’s how long it’s been since my last report to you. How time flies! It especially flies in the “attempting-to-get-one’s-book-traditionally-published” world. My latest news is:

I recently won a writing contest. My astute followers found my winning story at Dan Alatorre’s website. (He’s the fellow author/blogger who hosted the contest.) If you’re an astute follower who somehow missed seeing my earlier brazen plug for my victorious story, you may go to the site now. I’ll wait. 😀

But here’s the thing. One of the lovely prizes I won is a free cover design for any book I may happen to have waiting in the wings to be published. Well! I thought, on hearing this news. Have I got a book for you!

I’ve decided to self-publish my memoir, called “Surviving Hollywood North: Crew Confessions from an Insider,” as an ebook and probably a bunch of pay-to-print copies too. Tips on this process are welcome, although I do plan to consult with my son-in-law Shane Simmons who has gone through the whole process himself, and has graciously agreed to advise me on it. His site is well worth checking out, by the way… he’s a fabulous writer – on a par with Stephen King. Writes very sardonic and dark stuff. No, I’m not getting a commission. Although that’s an idea…

I’ll keep you posted!

    1. Thanks! Son-in-law; he’s married to my daughter. I do have a son too, mind you. He’s married too. I’m just sprouting with offspring all over, what can I tell you! 😀

  1. I’m so thrilled that you’ve finally decided to take this step. I’m sure you won’t regret it. It’s great that your son will guide you through the process. I’m finding there’s a fairly steep learning curve to catch all the ins & outs but the 2nd and 3rd books will be easier! 🙂

    1. Thanks Judith! I don’t think I’ll regret it either. (And what’s the alternative?! 😉 )
Son-in-law. Yep, he’ll be a big help. Also Dan Alatorre, the author who held the contest I won, has gone indie himself for many books. They’re all on Amazon. (Isn’t everything?!) And the free cover! Cool, huh?! I’m very excited!
