(Un)dressing for winter; or 3 things I’ll never understand about teenagers

Our winters are darn cold up here in Montreal! Yet here’s what you might see:

Teens-happy

  1. It’s minus-5°C. Young girl gets on bus, pays her fare. She walks towards you, and {boom!} that’s when you see them – RIPPED JEANS! Yes, the material is all shredded, and her knees are exposed! You get goosebumps just looking at her.
  2. It’s minus-10°C. Young guy gets on bus, pays his fare. He walks towards you, and {yikes!} that’s when you see them – BARE ANKLES! His… pants? tights?? end just above his ankles, and he’s not wearing any socks! Brrr! You hug yourself to keep warm.
  3. It’s minus-15°C. Couple of teens get on bus, pay their fares. They walk towards you, and {OMG!!} you stare at their OPEN JACKETS, BARE HEADS and GLOVE-LESS HANDS! You give up, shaking you head in disbelief.

Face it, fellow mature types! Kids today just don’t know how to dress for winter. Not like us, when we were young, right? Er… right? (I won’t mention the woman I saw recently on the bus, in mid-winter, wearing OPEN-TOED BOOTS!)
