Hi folks! While going through a lot of stuff prior to our move (that’ll have to be a whole other post!), I’m finding little treasures here and there, such as lists.
A few years ago I wrote a post called “Our Favourite Movies.” It included a list of my faves (https://elliepresner.com/2017/07/29/our-favourite-movies/), after which many faithful readers contributed their own lists. I’d like to update that now, in honour of the Oscars being awarded this coming Sunday night. Here they are, 10 highly recommended great films! Have you seen any of them? What did you think? You’re invited – as before – to name some favourites of your own!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thelma and Louise
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Raising Arizona
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Life is Beautiful
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ All That Jazz
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cabaret
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Schindler’s List
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Godfather II
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Eye of the Needle
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ O Lucky Man
All descriptions, reviews, etc. are easily found at the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com). I hope you can find the actual films somehow! 😅
I actually have seen all of the movies on your list. From back when I followed movies and I’d like to think I was knowledgeable. “O Lucky Man” is kind of obscure now and a little disturbing. I’d have to say “Cabaret” is a favorite of mine on your list. “Morgan or A Suitable Case for Treatment” is probably my favorite.! Of course, there are others. Thanks!

Oh Lucky Man is indeed obscure to most people, I think, so points go to you for not saying “Huh?” I even bought the soundtrack featuring Alan Price, fantastic record. (I admit I kinda had a crush on him. Check out https://youtu.be/3DLZRDPCX0o.

I’ve seen the first four plus Schindler’s. Not sure about Eye of the Needle, but think maybe I read a Ken Follett book by that title.
I’d say you’ve selected some greats!

Yes! The movie was based on the book, excellent adaptation. Donald Sutherland and Kate Nelligan were superb!
